There should be a white cannister that you put the media in to.
http://www.cheappetproducts.net/MEDIA_CONTAINER_FOR_2213-UKP46021.html I have one and it has this container. It's a right PITA to prime, just to warn you! I hate mine and can't wait to replace it just for that reason. i even have the priming kit but it doesn't prime it well. |

The media needs to go into the white cannister as the dirty water initially runs down the outside and then up through the media. If you put it straight into the green body the water will just skirt over the top of the media and go straight to the outlet.

[/QUOTE] i've had this trouble with a couple of filters we have, best way i found is to fill the filter with water from tank replace top attach pipes make sure both valves are closed.pull pipe from crook and fill the inlet pipe from the top, push pipe back on,open outlet pipe then open inlet pipe and power up. with some filters it's enough just to fill the inlet pipe and open the valve, this is enough to start the syphon into the filter once it has filled power it up. i agree Eheim are a PITA |

thsi is a second hand tank, i just got the media yesterday and realised that i need the internal media canister, i have tested and primed it fine all i did was suck from the top pipe to allow water to filter through from the bottom pipe and turn it on, and it worked fne not sure how it will react with all the media inside hope i don't make a mess |

As long as possible but at the very least a month plus and then don't add any more fish for a fair while after that.

They aren't supposed to rattle but mine does every now and then.
I have only had one external filter that's been virtually silent and that is my Fluval 205.
It will take a while to bed in as the internals get coated with algaes and such I expect. Edited by jennybugs - 08 March 2010 at 4:03pm |

Some externals can get an air bubble trapped in the top of the rotor housing which causes a rumble. A shake of the filter is often enough to dislodge it. You'll get a spray of bubbles in the tank as a sign that it's moved and the filter should run more quietly afterwards.

Thanks for all your advice guys and girls. the ehim pump has been setup for just over a month now, and has become virtually silent!. not bad for a 5 year od eheim 2213. Now i hope i dont get any leaks lol as it supstairs in my bedroom 110 litre would cause major damage to my house if the tank breaks for the pump leaks. But the fish are happier and water looks very clear compared to before. eheims are great.
