Hi

I'm quite new here and have a Juwel Rekord 800 that has been set up for a few months. I just changed the nitrate removal and blue sponge in the filter media for the first time, turned it back on and it doesn't seem to be working, the water in the tank is not moving at all. Any idea what I might have done and what I can do to remedy this? How long will the fish be ok without the filter going while I sort this out?

The filter was a little louder than normal before I changed the parts.

Thanks in advance

Hello.

Have you tried running the pump in a separate bucket of water to make sure it's not blocked up?  Sometimes the impellers inside the pumps need to be cleaned to keep them free moving.

Does it vibrate at all when it's plugged in?  I have two Rekord tanks but they are the old ones - a Rekord 60 and a Rekord 120 but the filters should be the same.  My pumps start straight back up again if I've unplugged them for any reason.

Thank you so much. I took the pump out and turned it on and it was ok. Put it back in and it's all fine now. I reckon the impellors just needed a nudge and got it from pulling pump out. Fish are all happy and swimming about again rather than hanging at the surface. Thanks for the quick reply.

As I have the same tank,  I might have to get a spare in just in case... However will do maintenance of impellors once a month...
things can only get better

I've had both my Rekord tanks for nearly 3 years Gerry and they're still all working fully Smile
Was it the pump that stopped?  Did you take it apart and clean it etc and make sure the impeller was spinning freely?

Sometimes an air bubble can stop the pump working and all it needs is a nudge to free it up. You mentioned anoula that you changed the blue sponge? I know most manufacturers now advise changing some of the filter media regularly but this is for their profits, not for the well being of your wallet or indeed the fish. Old timer fish keepers will advise you to wash the sponges in tank water and return them to the filter to maintain the bacteria in the filter system, rather than throwing portions of it away and having to wait for new bacteria to colonise new sponges.

yeah its normally an air bubble as Jim says, I get this whenever I do filter maintenance.  Normally its enough to just turn it on and off a few times and it gurgles into life
