![]() Topic: Cory died-Please HelpPosted: 07 February 2010 at 7:05pm |

Hi all
I am back again with another question, on friday I purchased a albino cory he was fine when I first brought him home but yesterday I noticed he was hardly swimming and just sitting lifeless at the bottom of the tank, anyway this morning he had died, I am up to date with my water changes, the only possible theory I have is, as you know i've been having white spot issues in my tank, so I purchased some salt called Ektozon, to help prevent the White Spot, I put a very tiny amount in the water do you think this may have something to do with the cory's death? If you have any ideas or suggestions it would be much appreciated.

unfortunaytely with fish its very hard to determine what killed it. I would not worry just yet, if other fish start showing the same symptoms then i would have a rethink, keep an eye on the tank and see what happens.

I have had a look at Ektozon but can't find anything online about using it to treat Whitespot......this is what I found:
For prevention and treatment of mycoses (saprolegnia, achlya) on freshwater and saltwater fish, ciliata infection (chilodonella) and protozoan ectoparasites. Exceptionally well proven for injuries of all kinds
It could be possible that this treatment may have affected the Cory. It may also just be a one off poor quality fish bought from your LFS. As SF says, just keep an eye on things. Also, do you test your water??? If so, what are the results?? Edited by Goonerman1 - 08 February 2010 at 8:39am |

Corydoras have quite a low tolerance for salt, but equally, as Goonerman points out, it's not unusual to pick-up a low quality fish from a LFS.
It's never a good idea to introduce new fish when there's an unresolved disease/parasite issue in the system.
